Positive Overview The Civil EIT is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the planning, design, and delivery of residential, commercial, public, and utility infrastructure projects under the guidance of licensed professional engineers and senior engineering staff. This role applies engineering principles to prepare calculations, reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents while developing the design, analytical, and coordination skills necessary to perform increasingly complex assignments with greater independence and progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Reports to: President with direct supervision from Principal Engineers Duties and Responsibilities Technical Responsibilities Prepare reports, plans, specifications, schedules, and designs in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards. Perform engineering calculations and prepare exhibits, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation for project deliverables. Assist with grading, drainage, utility, roadway, stormwater, and site development designs. Analyze reports, maps, drawings, survey data, test results, and topographic information to support design activities. Assist with permit applications and supporting documentation. Visit project sites to observe construction progress and assist with verifying conformance with project plans and specifications. Assist with reviewing subconsultant work products as assigned. Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate resulting comments into project deliverables. Maintain organized electronic project files and documentation in accordance with company standards. Project Support Support project engineers and project managers in completing assigned work on schedule and within budget. Coordinate assigned work with survey, planning, permitting, and other internal disciplines. Provide timely status updates on assigned work and communicate potential schedule concerns. Build an understanding of project budgets, schedules, and scope. Professional Development Actively pursue increasing responsibility through training, mentorship, and practical experience. Participate in internal training opportunities and applicable professional organizations. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Skills and Specifications Applies developing knowledge of civil engineering plans, construction practices, and design principles. Maintains current knowledge of applicable civil engineering codes, regulations, and design standards. Demonstrates basic proficiency in Civil 3D and Bluebeam. Uses Microsoft Office Suite effectively. Produces accurate, high-quality engineering documents. Develop practical solutions to routine engineering questions with appropriate guidance. Education, Experience, and Qualifications Zero (0) to four (4) years of civil engineering experience. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline preferred; individuals who qualify for EIT certification through an alternative education and experience pathway may also be considered. EIT certificate required for the Civil EIT title. Physical Considerations Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer, printer, copier, and telephone. Ability to perform repetitive, fine hand and arm movements associated with computer use and document handling. Ability to occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, and jurisdictional offices. Ability to traverse active construction sites while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
